Let’s do some parent math for a second. Between diaper changes, car seats, nap times, and those “I just want to be held” moments, how many times do you think you pick up your baby in a single day?
The average is 20+ times.
For a long time, I treated these pick-ups as neutral moments—just a necessary physical task to get from Point A to Point B (usually while my coffee got cold). But I’ve realized that those 20+ lifts are actually 20+ golden opportunities to wire our kids’ brains for success.
Every time you lift your little one, you aren’t just moving a tiny human; you are stimulating their entire neurological system.
It’s Not Just a Lift—It’s a Level Up
When we move our babies through space, we are lighting up their internal “control centers.” Every intentional movement stimulates:
- 🌀 The Vestibular System: Their internal balance center.
- 💪 Core Activation: Helping them stabilize their own weight.
- 🧠Spatial Awareness: Teaching them where they end and the world begins.
- 🔄 Midline Integration: Getting both sides of the brain to talk to each other.
- âš¡ Primitive Reflex Pathways: Helping those early survival movements mature into intentional ones.
The Foundation of… Well, Everything
The vestibular system lives in the brainstem, which is the absolute foundation of the brain. Think of it as the basement of a house—if the basement is shaky, the rest of the house is going to have issues.
A strong vestibular foundation leads to:
- Better Coordination & Athleticism
- Emotional Regulation (Yes, fewer meltdowns!)
- Focus and Reading Readiness
- Unshakeable Confidence
The secret? You don’t have to add more to your “to-do” list. You just have to do what you’re already doing… on purpose.
Small Tweaks, Big Brain Gains 🚀
Instead of a standard, boring lift, try adding a tiny “vestibular rep” to your daily routine. Think:
- A gentle “flying” motion into the car seat.
- A slow flip onto the changing table.
- A gentle inversion (head lower than heart) as you bring them to your lap.
- A little swing before you set them down.
Meeting Them at Their Level
Here’s the catch: Not every baby needs the same input. A baby who is just starting to roll needs a different type of movement than a toddler who is cruising along the furniture. Giving your child the wrong type of movement for their stage is like trying to teach a preschooler calculus—it just doesn’t click.
That’s exactly why I’m obsessed with the Milestone Masters Playbook. It takes the guesswork out of it by showing you: ✔ Exactly what stage your child is in. ✔ Which movements you should prioritize right now. ✔ How to build balance and coordination intentionally without the stress.
